Letterpress printed poster, printed on a Vandercook printing press by Hannah at Ratbee Press in Asheville, North Carolina in November of 2025. 11x14" printed on recycled kraft paper, two color options: kraft (darker) or rye (lighter). Each poster printed by hand and may have slight variations in inking. Shipped in a rigid mailer made of recycled materials.
This poster was inspired by my time living at the John C. Campbell Folk School for most of 2023- a deeply transformative experience of connection to community, craft, and place. After moving away from the Folk School, I jotted down a list of values + practices I wanted to hold onto, and the list hung on a large sheet of butcher paper in my kitchen until I moved last spring. I decided to turn the butcher paper poster into a letterpress printed piece to share with others. The process of making the piece felt as collaborative as the values it shares: a dear friend and illustrator, Ellie Swanson (who I met at the Folk School), created the papercut which became the illustration. A new friend, a fellow printmaker and musician, generously allowed me to letterpress these in her studio, Ratbee Press, in Asheville.
Whether or not you've been to the John C. Campbell Folk School, a different folk school, or haven't had a chance to spend time at a Folk School (which I'd highly recommend if you can find a way to visit one), I hope these "folk school ways" strike a chord with you. It was a delight to make these.
